Ricci got her first recognition and praise as a child star in her portrayal of Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family (1991) and Addams Family Values (1993) and her role as Kat Harvey in Casper (1995). Ricci shifted into roles suitable for adult roles with The Ice Storm (1997), followed by an award-winning appearance in The Opposite of Sex 1998, which resulted in her being the Golden Globe nominee for Best Actress. She was praised for her performance as a character in Sleepy Hollow and Monster.
